Study on regional areas of strength in the EU-13 countries

Commissioned by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF), INNO AG, in cooperation with the European Secretariat for Cluster Analysis (ESCA) department of VDI/VDE Innovation + Technik GmbH, have run an analysis on the potential for bilateral cooperation between Germany and the so-called EU-13-Member States.

The objective of the study was to identify the specific regional and local competence centers (clusters and innovation hotspots) in the EU-13-countries, which show already existing or emerging fruitful collaboration models between science and industry with significant innovation outputs. The data collected include their respective technology or branch focus as well as key players (businesses, research institutions and universities) and the description of their interactions.

The study encompasses innovation profiles of the EU-13-Member States and their players that show where there is a significant potential in terms of specific regional and local competence centers that, from a German aspect, provide a solid basis for bilateral partnerships which shall lead to mutually beneficiary partnerships and joint innovation activities.
