Ellen Pedersen, ex-Project Manager TACIS, currently manager of the EU export promotion programmes to Japan:

"inno engaged with the European Commission in the process of modernising the naukograds (Scientific Cities) in the Russian Federation. The project team made all the difference in that process, and results emerged in each naukograd. A sound regional Innovation Strategy (the first of its kind in Russia) was approved and implementation started, commercialisation activities from scientific centres took place with concrete return on investments, and related benefits.
A successful project depends on people, ideas, and political will."

The project NaWaRo (Nachwachsende Rohstoffe = Renewable Primary Prducts) aimed at favourably using the very rural economic structure of Lower Austria by specifically considering renewable primary products for the set-up of thematic industrial clusters.
|

 |
The first challenge faced during the carrying out of the project was the need to convince actors from the manufacturing sector, the processing sector and the distribution to join efforts in long-term cooperations in order to create an extensive regional basis for product innovation.
For this purpose, during the first phase of the projects, companies in Lower Austria were identified which already use renewable primary products or which might be interested in extending or substituting their product range by means of material made of renewable primary products. The survey focused on companies already producing or marketing renewable primary products.
In a second step, the product ideas of these companies were examined with regard to their technological and commercial potential. On the basis of this potential evaluation the product ideas were then evaluated taking into account international comparison data and experience.
In a last step detailed realisation measures were elaborated in order to specifically support the implementation of particularly promising approaches in the scope of a further future project phase.
