Ellen Pedersen, ex-Project Manager TACIS, currently manager of the EU export promotion programmes to Japan:

"inno engaged with the European Commission in the process of modernising the naukograds (Scientific Cities) in the Russian Federation. The project team made all the difference in that process, and results emerged in each naukograd. A sound regional Innovation Strategy (the first of its kind in Russia) was approved and implementation started, commercialisation activities from scientific centres took place with concrete return on investments, and related benefits.
A successful project depends on people, ideas, and political will."

The Lisbon Summit promised that Europe would become the most competitive area in the world by 2010. This vision is based on the assumption that EU countries should invest 3% of their GDP in research, innovation and technology activities. The results have not yet been achieved, but the challenge remains. Can European countries and regions survive economically without investing massively in knowledge and its exploitation?

inno group has been analysing the strengths and weaknesses of European Innovation Systems for the last fifteen years and in 2000 we started implementing and testing our own ideas. As a result of working with more than 300 clients across the EU and Russia we reached the conclusion that exploitation of R&D results could be managed in a manner that would create value for regions, the business communities and the researchers themselves.
One cannot pretend that this model is the only one which can produce results for stakeholders, but we have proved that our approach gives visible and efficient results. inno group offers its clients the potential to create measurable value from the knowledge-based organisations located in their regions. The philosophy of our work is based on the mix between the right combination of deal-flow of R&D opportunities and the work of a highly qualified and permanent team of “value creators”.
Six main ingredients are necessary to ensure success:
 | Work with a critical number of no less than 2,000 researchers brought together in consortia for joint valorisation between regional R&D institutions
 | Develop trust and confidence with individual research teams thanks to proactive and permanent contact with researchers
 | Obtain the right of first refusal to ensure that we only select innovations that match a market demand of their scientific value
 | Think “value” in its broadest sense: research contracts, joint ventures, long-term contracts and start-ups
 | Secure additional finances: inno actively supports its regional clients in finding additional public and private resources to run their activities
 | Enter into long-term arrangements with our clients through Public-Private Partnerships.
This approach allows inno group to be accountable for tangible results in terms of economic development for Regional Authorities, direct revenues for researchers and increased income for the R&D organisations themselves.
