Lars Högdahl Chairman of the Regional Growth Committee, Swedish Ministry of Industry:

"inno assisted the Regional Growth Committee in its task aiming to strengthen long-term economic development in exposed labour-market regions in parts of mid-central Sweden. The strategy of inno combining competence mapping with foresight methodology successfully enabled the region to find new areas of development. The most exciting result of inno´s work was the initiation of co-operations disregarding from geographically administrative boarders and traditional sector definitions."

The project OMNI-NET aims at providing European national and regional stakeholders with analysis, methodologies, best practices, joint projects and policy recommendations to facilitate the necessary evolution of clusters in transverse and convergent technologies. OMNI-NET focuses on optics and/or micro/nano electronics (OMN) clusters, relating to IST and NMP technologies.
|

 |
Aim of the OMNI-NET project is to foster cooperation between OMN clusters and investigate how they use technological convergence - presence of different types of technology to perform very similar tasks - to evolve and serve/drive applicative markets, and how this impacts cluster strategy, organisation, communication, equipment and financing.
The results of the project will be applicable to a wide range of clusters in convergent technologies such as biotechnology, software etc., thus contribute to the needs of the EU knowledge economy and industrial dynamic. Existing cluster theory will be adapted to the partners’ specific experience, with the aim to provide a set of best practice and methodological tools to help regional, national and European policy makers shape new policies in view of the huge opportunities brought by convergence.
To provide a set of best practice and methodological tools, OMNI-NET will adapt the existing cluster theory and use experience of other networks such as IRE, Gate2Growth and PAXIS. OMNI-NET outputs will be transferred towards the wider EU innovation community through continuous dissemination, particularly to regions from new member and applicant states.
Last, OMNI-NET will prepare an OMN meta-cluster, paving the way for the launch of ambitious joint projects.
In the framework of OMNI-NET, inno AG supports the partners in the management of this complex inter-institutional research project and helps the partner with its long-standing experience interacting with the European Commission.
