Lars Högdahl Chairman of the Regional Growth Committee, Swedish Ministry of Industry:

"inno assisted the Regional Growth Committee in its task aiming to strengthen long-term economic development in exposed labour-market regions in parts of mid-central Sweden. The strategy of inno combining competence mapping with foresight methodology successfully enabled the region to find new areas of development. The most exciting result of inno´s work was the initiation of co-operations disregarding from geographically administrative boarders and traditional sector definitions."

Strengthening, organising and networking sectors of excellence…
Over the last couple of years, clusters and sectors of excellence have increasingly been recognised as a strong tool for economic development and as a source of image and value creation for regions.

Understanding the current situation and future prospects, specific sectors and sub-sectors of the economy are important for Governments, national and local, as well as for individual firms. For the public sector at a national level, the intention may be to reshape policy frameworks or guide strategic dialogue with major firms. At a regional level there may be a need to strengthen competitiveness and attractiveness. There may even be a concern about understanding specific problems or weaknesses so as to propose a set of measures to support relationships, to improve the innovation process or to help foster productivity improvements in individual firms, potentially through supply chains or cluster initiatives.
inno has a vast experience covering many high-tech sectors including biotechnology, information and communication technologies, nanotechnology, automotive, metrology, micromechanics, audiovisual, environment…
inno’s expertise spans the entire cluster spectrum: from market study to action plan (cluster development or regional development strategy). inno seeks to address 5 key issues:
 | How to identify clusters? (Quantitatively by measuring sector and spatial concentration and qualitatively by identifying actors and relationships)
 | How to animate and breathe life into clusters ?
 | How to differentiate clusters and support their development?
 | How to join clusters into networks of clusters ?
 | How to compare clusters and policy interventions supporting cluster development? (best practices)
inno masters the concept of “cluster” and uses it as a tool not only for supporting the development of sectors of excellence but also for helping regions to evaluate their positioning on the European scale of excellence and has on numerous occasions managed cluster networks on behalf of the EU.
