Ellen Pedersen, ex-Project Manager TACIS, currently manager of the EU export promotion programmes to Japan:

"inno engaged with the European Commission in the process of modernising the naukograds (Scientific Cities) in the Russian Federation. The project team made all the difference in that process, and results emerged in each naukograd. A sound regional Innovation Strategy (the first of its kind in Russia) was approved and implementation started, commercialisation activities from scientific centres took place with concrete return on investments, and related benefits.
A successful project depends on people, ideas, and political will."

The biotechnologies strategy prepared by inno TSD on behalf of the ARD (Regional Development Agency) for the Auvergne region involved a detailed review of research activities in the region (technology mapping) in order to establish the strengths and weaknesses of the area. This review was based on a detailed analysis of the activities developed by the various actors supporting the biotechnology sector. Its aim was the rationalisation and specification of the single actions’ focus.

The analysis included two kind of actions. On the one hand collecting information concerning the research sectors involved in biotechnology and life sciences within the Auvergne region. This action aimed at identifying opportunities to enhance the transfer of technology between research centres and SMEs. On the other hand, in the framework of this analysis the competences of some biotech companies were mapped in order to provide a comprehensive overview of the biotechnological competences within the region.
This study allowed the project partners to obtain a better understanding of the regional strengths, to reinforce the visibility of the biotechnology cluster and to increase collaboration between the various actors. Some of the concrete actions included in the project were:
 | The identification of a list of territorial marketing factors;
 | The detection of opportunities for future development of the biotechnological pole in this region;
 | The completion of a concrete Action Plan which outlined the steps to valorise the existing activities in the biotechnology sector.
 | The identification of opportunities to bid for EU resources (ex: Innovative Actions Call).
A short marketing document was also produced to enable regional partners to promote the biotechnology sector to investors outside of the region.
